Well, it feels like Pfun Camp was just ending the last time I posted on here, but here it is again! Summer has arrived, and I'm deeply buried in the busyness of preparing for camp to start next week in Pflugerville.
For those of you who don't know, I'm the Camp Director for the City of Pflugerville's Summer Pfun Camp recreational program. It's a day camp that takes place out at the beautiful parks and pools of the city, which have numerous facilities for us to use that make camp very "pfun!" We also take the campers on field trips each week, and occasionally venture around the Austin area to find other activities to enjoy.
This is my 3rd summer as the Camp Director, but my 4th year on staff, over a 5 year period... a little confusing maybe? The point is, I've been doing this Pfun Camp thing for a while now, and it's become a part of who I am. Other people make big plans for vacations, relaxing, and sleeping in over the summer, but not me! I'll be playing hardcore camp games, adventuring on field trips, and swimming with 100 kiddos every day! ;)
Sadly, this will be my last summer as the Pfun Camp Director. Due to the demands of my full-time teaching career paired with my desire to assist Bryan out here at Camp Wilderness Ridge (and just the desire to be home once in a while!), I've decided to pass on the Pfun Camp legacy to someone else... just still praying for who that will be!
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to a summer that ROCKS at Pfun Camp. I have no doubt that it will, because I hired an AMAZING staff that rocks! Last weekend we were able to host the Pfun Camp Staff Retreat out at Camp Wilderness Ridge and we had an absolute blast! My staff and I got to do some intensive training on Behavior Management, Child Protection, Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Decision Making, and Planning, but we also got to enjoy the Low Ropes Course and High Ropes Course (Ziplines & Screamer!), and learn new games and activities to incorporate at Pfun Camp. We also enjoyed delicious treats around the campfire, which we don't get to experience at Pfun Camp! At the end of the retreat, each group was able to repaint our old groups signs and they look fabulous!
