Last night a huge beetle flew into the office as we were reviewing photos from Summer Camp, and we have no idea what it was... Any entomology enthusiasts out there have an ID?
It was about 3" long, 3/4" high, 3" from tip of legs... flying insect... 6 legs
[UPDATE]: Looks like a female Oryctes rhinoceros aka coconut rhinoceros beetle based on this guide. (Thanks, Perouza, for your help!)
My only question would be: how did a beetle that lives in the Pacific Islands and survives on the palm fronds of coconut trees end up in the Lost Pines of Central Texas?
